Spitbraais caters halaal spit braai functions across Cape Town using halaal-certified meat from a halaal butcher, prepared on dedicated equipment. To be exact about it: the meat is halaal-certified, the kitchen is not. Spitbraais does not hold a halaal certificate, so if your function requires a certified caterer rather than halaal ingredients, we will say so up front rather than take the booking.
What halaal-friendly means here. Halaal-certified lamb and chicken, bought from a halaal butcher with the certificate available on request. Separate spit, separate trays, separate utensils. No pork on site for the entire function. No alcohol in any basting, marinade or sauce.
What a halaal spit braai in Cape Town costs
Exactly what the same menu costs on any other booking — there is no halaal surcharge. A halaal-friendly spit braai runs on the lamb, chicken or mixed menu (lamb with chicken, never pork), with a minimum of 25 guests:
| Halaal-friendly menu | Per person, from | 25 guests, from | 50 guests | 100 guests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lamb | R150 | R3,750 | R7,500 | R15,000 |
| Chicken | R116 | R2,900 | R5,800 | R11,600 |
| Mixed Meat | R204 | R5,100 | R10,200 | R20,400 |

The certified meat and the dedicated equipment are carried in those rates. Salads, dessert and travel are added the same way as on any booking; see spit braai prices.
Halaal catering in Cape Town: what halaal-friendly covers
Most searches for halaal catering in Cape Town want one of two things: halaal meat handled properly, or a caterer holding its own halaal certificate. Spitbraais is the first and not the second. The meat is halaal-certified and bought from a halaal butcher; the kitchen and the business hold no certificate. A function that needs a certified caterer should say so on the quote form, and you will be told straight away rather than after booking.
How we handle a halaal function
- Meat. Halaal-certified lamb and chicken only, sourced per booking. Certificate available on request before the event.
- Equipment. A spit, trays and utensils kept for halaal work and not used for pork.
- On site. No pork is brought to the venue at all, on any menu, for the whole function.
- Seasoning. No wine, beer or alcohol-based marinade in the baste or the sauces.
Menus are on spit braai menus; full rates on spit braai prices.
